Rest well, Lanemom

dscn0143I found out earlier today that my maternal grandmother, Lanemom, passed away yesterday. She survived 92 hard, mainly unhappy years in this world.

Lanemom was manipulative, smart, demanding, and frequently mean. But she sometimes surprised with softness, too. Last week, my mom showed her a picture of Slade, the great grandchild she would never meet.

Her response: “He’s beautiful.”

There she was, bedridden, her lungs failing, her mind slowly going to sleep, and she said those kind words. I’m going to try to hold on to that, to the good in her, to her toughness, to her quick mind.

Rest well, Lanemom. I hope you find happiness in whatever awaits beyond death.

I’m sorry about your loss, Craig.

I, too, had a manipulative, smart and demanding Gramma. She died a few years back without ever meeting her one and only great grandkid- whom she declared a beauty.
I’m not sure why I’m writing a comment except to say ” Me TOO!”
and the fact that I was convinced a curse of some sort was lifted from me the day she died. Free at last, free at last, from Gramma’s hyper-watchful, critical eye. God rest her good-intentioned, albeit harsh and critical soul.

Lanemom sounds like she was an interesting woman that had lots of stories to tell. May her soul rest in peace.
